Moncloa Gate (Arco de la Victoria)
Parque del Oeste (West Side Park), is located close to the Moncloa area, and to the southwest, almost reaching Plaza España, along the Paseo del Pintor Rosales, street.
Parque del Oeste
Before 1893 , part of the area where this park is today, was the main landfill of Madrid. Early last century, around 1906, the Mayor Alberto Aguilera, asked Celedonio Rodrigáñez Vallejo, an agronomist, to design a park on this area. After the Civil War, Cecilio Rodriguez followed, and was responsible for its reconstruction after the Civil War.
One of the Bunkers that still remain at the Parque del Oeste
In northern most part of the park, near the University, and to the west of the Carretera de la Coruña , we can still see remnants of the Spanish Civil War, with some bunkers, as you can see in the photo. This part of the city was a battlefield during the war.
Monument to Concepción Arenal, Parque del Oeste
Today we enjoy a very nice forested area, with monuments and fountains as the one on the photo, called Juan de Villanueva.

Also within this park is the Rose Garden , which contains a large number and variety of roses, which can be better seen in the spring time.

From the cable car station (Teleférico), which has its boarding on Paseo del Pintor Rosales, you can see great views of Madrid.
The Temple of Debod is in the most southern part of the park, near the Plaza España.
